Free Wi-Fi and Hotspots in Kathmandu

Team TechSansar worked out this week to find some really free Wi-Fi connection in the valley, while users outside Kathmandu also have written us about availability of free Wi-Fi on certain public places.

Initially we were perplexed whether to include the internet connection given for free in hotels, Broadlink-WIFI-And-Other-Wireless-Networkrestaurants, and bars (as free Wi-Fi and Hotspots – though the charge is pre-included in the cold drinks…); later some of TechSansar’s Facebook friends suggested though few it is good to include really nice list of some working and free Wi-Fi connections in the valley.

      No worry about Broadlink WiFi it is free for now. Its free for certain time only then it will protected by WPA or some type of login page.

      Broadband is the funda of WiMAX. And the Broadband WiFi we are talking about is likely to be something related to 3G or even higher data service – but sadly the Ministry have just approved WiMAX so it can’t be WiMAX which we have been catching the signal for months by now.
      When we contact the officials of Broadlink WiFI, we will make it in TechSansar as well.

    I don think there is such programme in Channels of Nepal that gives information regarding the tech.

    I was able to surf Internet using “Broadlink WIFI” with 256 kbps speed. Company plans to launch the service in July 2010. It is not WiMax but simply 802.11g WiFi.

      Hey Aashish, thank you for your comment but we cannot personally provide any WAP key because we are listing the free WiFi services provided. May be Broadlink still throws its web for free, check once.

    hotel dwarika also provides the free WIFI signals..BUT not so farwhen i use it with my PSP far from nearly100 meters away from the roof then it only shows 39%.and after few times the signal’s gone.but however it feels very nice to use the free hotspot..

    i think DNS is some kind of security to avoid the unknown user..when the DNS is set then after that its no use for the unknown user..dont know how i they found it but once i was using the signal of blackhawk in chbahil they set the dns n interrupt my transmission..what the….

    and yes there is a good spot in hattisar called.the signal is named as default outside the utloffice..though the signal was 2 low from 17-22 but however i could manage 2 listen the world radio9 through internet..i was really amazed that it can catch up even with such low signals..

    Hi everybody, I am from Janakpur. Here is also WiFi Network called JNCS. I connect in this way. I opened WLAN and referesh the list of providers. In first it showed ‘wireless’ and second ‘wlink’ . First one was the signal of JNCS, which was unsecured connection and second asked me for WPA key. I choose first and clicked in connect. It was connected within seconds. Then I opened WLAN properties and checked show icon in notification area and Open browser. At first it automatically pop-up to JNCS logging page. Then i typed username and password provided by JNCS.

      It is good to get WiFi here in Janakpur, but the greater than the greatest demerit is that the signal is too much weak. We have to go to second floor to access it in laptop. There is no chance to access it from ground floor. I will be waiting for broadlink WiFi from which we can surf any where within city.

      First Register at broadlink.com.np to get free username and password. Then after select broadlink wifi from network list. Connect. Other connection are WEP/WPA protected. Once successfully connected then If you browse first it will ask for username and password.

    Pandit ji if u hav reception problem then buy a wifi receiver that plugs into ur USB port. It has long wire n receiver at one end so u keep the receiver outside wall of ur house. Price start frm 1200 rs. Then u can surf anywhere within the 400 m range of wifi tower. And bdlink wifi isnt FREE always. May b upto dashain. It is just testing the service.Gd day.

      You can buy USB WiFi Adapter which is available from 1000 Rupees onwards. If the signal is weak in your area then better buy PCI WiFi Adapter. It’s price is higher than USB Adapter.

    I’m a medical student living in Samakhushi and had been using broadlink wifi for a couple of months…It’s excellent network and had benefitted me alot but now the login page says my free user account will expire by sept 30 midnight…I want to connect with this network service further and not being able to contact with customer care service either…
