LTE or WiMax : what should Nepal go for?



LTE_logo , Long Term Evolution image logo, techsansar.comWe are hearing news about WiMax in recent days in Nepal (also read our WiMAX coverage written 2 years ago) whereas it is LTE in the western world that has already been deployed. Even though Nepal was the first to announce and launch 3G (?) in South Asia, India has overthrown Nepal in 4G LTE deployment recently, while Nepal still struggling to improve the network coverage of 2.5G. Looks like Telecom mafia has invaded Nepal in recent decade, as a result customers are paying large amount of fees to operators who even don’t care how well their network signals are performing. IP CDMA – Next step to broadband in Nepal

EVDO device connected on laptopNepal Telecom (NT) is finally all set to deploy IP CDMA broadband service by December 2011 which was announced back to 2009. The target is to reach broadband to another 2 million (20 lakhs) and more customers in suburb n rural areas. Using this service NT customers would enjoy 3G facilities based on EVDO technology – that means high quality of voice and data services. But NT has not clarified if this is the beginning step of the 4G telephony service in Nepal because IP CDMA could be distributed to customers with a fixed IP like a cell phone number and customers can make voice calls directly from IP to IP, or use data services as per their requirement.

Nepalese Broadband Internet to be assisted by ITU

Nepal is Opened for 4G Telco

4G Mobile TelephonyThe Nepalese Ministry of Information and Communication (MoIC) has determined the frequency band to be allocated for much anticipated and still in research telecommunication standard – 4G. The Ministry has been recommended 2.6 GHz band with 150 MHz bandwidth in urban areas, whereas 700 Mhz band is for rural areas, by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
