The first ever Nepal Internet Governance Forum [Nepal IGF] is being organized in Nepal. Nepal IGF is a multi-stakeholder forum initiated to promote and encourage open and inclusive dialogue and exchange of ideas among all stakeholders involved with Internet governance related issues in Nepal. The event, with the theme of “Building Sustainable Internet Ecosystem in Nepal” is being held on 17-18 August, 2017 at Yellow Pagoda Hotel, Kantipath-1, Kathmandu, Nepal.
The IGF Forums facilitate a multi-stakeholder discussion and exchange of ideas and opinions to foster multi-stakeholder collaboration among the stakeholders from their respective community. The IGF is UN initiated multi-stakeholder platform that facilitates the discussion of public policy issues pertaining to the Internet. A multi-stakeholder steering group (MSG) has been formed in Nepal chaired by Mr. Birendra Kumar Mishra, Director General, Department of Information Technology (DoIT).
Internet Society Nepal is the host of Nepal IGF. Internet Society Nepal is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated in voicing the rights of users and raising awareness of ICT development in Nepal. Since its establishment in 2009, ISOC Nepal has been facilitating policy discussions relating to Internet and has organized a number of events. With growing importance of the debates around Internet governance in local level, ISOC Nepal has stepped into this responsibility of bringing the most prestigious UN initiated forum at a national level. We strongly believe that this event is crucial in standardization of Internet governance at national level according to the global standards and principles.
