Low cost Android One Smartphones launches in Nepal

Now a days, Google’s default home (search) page displays a small text ad about Android one in Nepal. This is likely to get enough attention of the launch of low cost smartphones Android One with Google’s sort of flagship for developing country. After few months of official launch in India, Android One is reported to step in multiple South Asian counties including Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (by third week of January 2015). At least, Google’s ad says so.

As of now, Android One series of smart phones are released by few manufacturers, phone models including Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparle V and Spice Dream Uno. However, even before the official launch of Android One series in Nepal, these mobile phones are already available in the market.

Android One’s Future in Nepal

Looks like Android One smartphone series is likely to stay longer in Nepal for many reasons that the low end budget smartphones do not provided features as Android One does. Selling price of One units are marked about 100 USD, however, expect upto 150 USD in Nepal due to regulations and type approval from Nepal Telecommunication Authorities. Those One devices available now have almost same phone specification but the great news about them is that Google is going to provide direct OTA (over-the-air) Android update to all the phones released under Android One series.

The OTA Android updates are applied automatically for over 2 years from the date of release of the Android One phone model. This, of course, including Android L (aka Android 5.0 – Lollipop) update to Android one devices, of course. This is one selling proposition of Android one as current budget smartphones do not usually provide Android OS update.
