CAN InfoTech 2010 begins in Kathmandu

CAN-INFO-TECH-LOGOA Mega Event of Information, Communication & Entertainment Technology CAN Info-Tech 2010 on its 16th edition has began in the capital Kathmandu today (Jan 13, 2010). The show also features Nepal Information Technology Show and Conference where participants represents countries overseas too. This edition of the country’s premier information technology exhibition at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu.

The ICT event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. The government is planning for the smartcard identity card to all Nepalese Citizens, according to the PM Nepal.

The vice-chairman of the High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) Manohar Bhattarai informed that a certification unit for the internet-based transaction has already been constituted for the e-commerce possibility in Nepal. Bhattarai also added that the work for e-governance has reached the final stages. The opening ceremony was attended by Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) officials. CAN is the organizer of the event.

Around 400,000 visitors are expected to visit the exhibition, according to CAN. At the event, there will be presence of various brands such as Lenovo, HP, Sony, Brother, Samsung, Umax Sumax, Toshiba and HCL among others. Samsung is also launching its laptops for the first time in Nepal.

The six-day event is being held as ‘a mega event of information, communication and entertainment technology’ with 270 stalls from more than 100 companies. The even timings 10am to 5pm and will run from Jan 13 to 18 (Poush 29 to Magh 4, 2066), Exhibition Hall, Bhrikutimandap. Jan 14th and 18th are the Business days of CAN Info-Tech so unless you are a professional don’t go to stalls on these days.
