While Facebook and YouTube (both non-Nepali websites) continue to dominate Internet user’s choice of most visited website in Nepal, Nepal’s news portals have finally pulled themselves on the top as near as 4th rank this year. And a lot of other websites have gone way from the top website list in Nepal in 2016. Also to note that global website ranking of Nepalese websites is not available, this article to list “top news websites of Nepal” our assumptions is based on those from Alexa statistics which is limited on it’s own algorithm.
There are over 1 billion websites on the Internet today (this excludes enterprise and corporate house’s Intranet based portals.) From 1 website back in 1991 to 1 billion in 2014, the history of websites on the public websphere has gone thru myriad of changes and rank fluctuations. According to Quantcast, not a single website from Nepal make it to the top sites list.

No any other website other than news sites from Nepal have been able to rank well. Medianp, Purbeli News, Swasthyakhabar succeed above list of top news websites Nepal. While popular websites such as BBC Nepali, The Himalayan Times, Baahrakhari, Nepalipatra are no where on the first page of top and most visited websites in Nepal as per Alexa top sites in Nepal.
The most popular non-news Nepali website in the country is Hamrobazaar.com followed by Kaymu eCommerce portal.
The trend has shown in the past that “MFA (made for adsense) websites” were able to gain visitors enough to come in the top website list mainly due to Facebook’s advertisement or cloaking or black hat SEO ways, however due to various Google algorithms and people’s awareness they have taken their positions back to where they should have been.
