Global Game Jam Nepal
The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle.
From this year on, Nepal will also be joining this worldwide game development event. This year, the global game jam event will take place on 29th to 31st January. The event is being organized in Nepal by LOCUS, an independent student committee of Pulchowk Engineering Campus.
Here in Nepal, the Global Game Jam will be a game development competition where the contestants will form teams and develop games according to the theme provided by the Global Game Jam internationally. The event will last two and a half days and on the final day, the games developed by the participants will the judged and winners will be selected accordingly. The participants are free to use any tools and assets as long as it doesn’t international copyright laws.
This is a big deal for game developers from Nepal because this provides the developers with a platform to showcase their skills on an international platform. This event will help Nepal to be discovered to the world from a game development perspective. Also, a successful execution of this event will kickstart game industry here in Nepal.
