NTA (नेपाल दूरसंचार प्राधिकरण) is an independent body founded under the Telecommunication Act 1997 of Nepal responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications (wire, cellular, satellite and cable) in the country. The then Government of Nepal’s on December 25, 1995 (2052/09/10) decided to welcome private sector into the telecommunication sector in the country. This decision of the cabinet was meant to be a liberalization policy in the ICT for development. Nepal Government, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (MoSTE) is the only government authority looking after the country’s Science, Technology and Environment development as the name suggests. Today’s MoSTE has been formed as a merger of the then Ministry of Population and Environment with the Ministry of Science and Technology (in 2061/12/18 ie March 31, 2005) – they separated again during 2066/02/29 BS to 2069/02/05 BS period and then finally rejoined as MoSTE again.
