We are really late on this topic but most Kathmanduties and those on other parts of the country suffering from computer viruses frequently will love to know about this. There is a free (yes, totally free) antivirus application from Microsoft itself for Windows XP, Vista and 7 both 32 and 64-bit.
Now, stop thinking anymore and take your joy to a ride. Microsoft had released Microsoft Security Essentials months before (Oct/Nov 2009) just along with their newer OS Windows 7.
Download the Microsoft Security Essentials (this product will install only if you have genuine Windows Operating System either XP or Vista or 7 for any 32 or 64-bit) and install it on the course of which the apps verified if it is being run on the Genuine machine or not. After installing, one must update the security software before scanning the computer and removing viruses, malwares, spywares and whatever you call.
Once it is completely updated with Virus & Spyware definitions, it says ‘Computer status – Protected’ which is really needed. Virus & spyware definitions are files that Microsoft Security Essentials use to identify malicious or potentially unwanted software on your computer. You should always keep these definitions up to date to help your computer against the latest threats.
Microsoft Security Essentials scans your system in three sorts – Quick Scan, Full System Scan and Custom Scan for removable pen drives or media devices. Upon finding any security issues the apps says – Preliminary scan results show that malicious or potentially unwanted software might exist on your system. You can review detected items when the scan has completed.
There is complete listing of history about the items Microsoft Security Essentials detected as potentially harmful and the action that you took on each item. This antivirus software on our test detected: Trojan Dropper (TrojanDropper:Win32/Silly_P2P.B), Tool (VirTool:Win32/DelfInject.gen!BE), Virus (Virus:Win32/Sality.AM), Backdoor (Backdoor:Win32/Pasur!rts), Worm (Worm:Win32/Autorun.gen!inf, Autorun.MY, Autorun.GY), Trojan Notifier (TrojanClicker:Win32/Yabector.gen) – since the list is going long, we shall be publishing another article on this.
Microsoft Security Essentials detected programs that may compromise your privacy or damage your computer. You can still access the files that these programs use without removing them (not recommended). To access these files, select the ‘Allow’ action and click ‘Apply actions’. If this option is not available, log on as administrator or ask the local administrator for help.
There are few automated settings for user’s comfort. Scheduled scanning on my computer, default actions for alert level, enabling or disabling real-time protection, excluding files, file types, processes and locations from auto-scanning.
Enough said about Microsoft Security Essential as a free premium anti-virus solution. So, there is really a no need to purchase expensive antivirus or internet security softwares. Should you require more on this, comment now. Once again, Download the Microsoft Security Essentials here.
