Every year on May 2nd, we observe National ICT (Information and Communications Technology) day in Nepal. Today’s event was live streamed in Zoom and Facebook (here) and included some exciting announcements in the info tech and comm domain in the country. We try to summarize those in this post from the same event:

- Nagarik QR code for signing up and identifying services from multiple service providers – for example: PM Oli demonstrated online bank account just by scanning the QR code from his Nagarik App; currently QR code is accepted by Nepal Bank and Siddhartha Bank
- Realization of Digital Nepal Framework
- Graduation of Nagarik App from beta
- 5G cellular mobile technology test started from Nepal Telecom
- Namaste Pay – mobile based payment from Nepal Telecom
- ICT Award program – ICT awards winners of 2021 Nepal
- Government Data center in all 7 provinces – data centers in Banke and Khumaltar have already started
- Online KYC, vehicle registration and taxation via Nagarik App
