Well for most of us, Cloud Computing is something that doesn’t matter even if it is a real nimbus cloud ready to drop water. And even not surprisingly, it doesn’t matter if clouds do computing. But, the reality is almost all of us who are onto this computing thing – doesn’t necessarily have to do Internet – are using cloud computing in a way or the other. Cloud computing has hit netizen’s everyday life, in most cases in a way to make technology even more seamless. Understanding cloud computing, luckily, is so simple – than one might think.

Cloud computing is a recent tech buzzword or a jargon that has affected everyone’s daily lives. From our personal files to the apps that we run on our mobile devices, all have connection with the cloud either to store the files & settings or to pull information on demand.

Our personal files are stored in the cloud. We maintain our friendships via apps in the cloud. Mobile phones and tablets run powerful apps via the cloud, giving rise to new devices like tablets, and killing off others, like the netbook and, perhaps one day, the PC. – BI

Cloud computing can be visualized in a simpler approach as an utility service just like any other services this lets us rent the technology we want to use for a period-wise fees. However, this fees vary according to the nature of the cloud services one subscribe to, namely;

  • SaaS – Software as a Service – renting an app or its services
  • PaaS – Platform as a Service – renting a platform usually to develop an app
  • IaaS – Infrastructure as  a Service – renting hardware (obviously remotely) usually by start ups & enterprises

Seriously, there is no exaxt definition of cloud computing and you never need it. Cloud, for me, is simply dumping everything you do “computing” with or on onto a space (which people generally perceive as real cloud if not virtualized extra large machines) to get services on demand.  Cloud computing provides scalability and that’s the main concept behind it. It is cloud computing that enables you to use a remotely installed OS, apps, even infrastructure, and accessible via just a web browser. Read more: What is Cloud? Finally, watch this video by clouddistribution below which explains Cloud Computing in plain English, defining cloud computing as a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet.
