TOTO Link wireless routers have become quite popular in Nepal recently – thanks to affordable price that comes with multitude of router features from full fledged VPN services to routing options. This article includes steps and optimizing tips on configuring TOTO Link Wireless Routers, for the screenshots we have taken TOTO Link N150RB starter router. You can configure Nepal Telecom’s ADSL or private ISP‘s cable Internet or even Fiber-to-the-Home connection from these routers.

TOTO Link Wireless router features Internet Setup in N150RB just like other major routers. You have the options to select among three Internet input sources, namely; DHCP user (FTTH, Optic LAN, Cable Modem, VDSL, LAN, IP

ADSL), PPPoE User (ADSL) and Static IP User. Configuring TOTO Link routers is very easy and straight forward.

After setting up Internet, it’s time to setup wireless on your router. You can define SSID name and select the modes (B,G,N), WiFi region, channel and operation mode, plus the encryption model and the Wireless connection’s password (TOTO calls this encryption key.)

Remote router management port and remote access list might be useful for network admins that the TOTO Link router provide with.

On the advanced network setup screen you can configure LAN IP, it’s subnet mask if needed LAN Gateway address. Also you can set up DHCP server route here to define the DHCP IP pool. One interesting feature that TOTO Link router allow is you can select to enable Internet access only for PCs or devices allocated by DHCP server only this is in addition to DHCP static lease setup of MAC address restriction or allocation.

Not all budget routers allow users to broadcast multiple wireless networks aka multiple BSS or SSIDs but TOTO Link wireless routers do. To enable multiple wireless networks go to Advanced Setup >> Wireless >> Multiple BSS >> SSID and apply appropriate access policy and wifi password. If you want you can enable the QoS for each connection ie limit the download and upload rate. This way you can control your bandwidth in each connection; maybe Guest wifi may only need download connections.

Utility router features of Totolink includes VPN setup, DDNS facility, WOL, Host Scan and others.
You can choose either of No-IP, ChangeIP, DtDNS, 2221.org, 3322.org or DynDNS‘s dynamic DNS feature. You can then access your router from the hostname you defined or from external Internal network.

Setting up VPN is enabled for PPTP with optional encryption (MPPE). You have the option to create VPN account, VPN password and assign IP address for the VPN (PPTP) account. Once VPN is setup and VPN account is created, you access this private network with external network.

On the traffic menu item, you can define QoS, view connection information, control each connection, setup wired port or even setup switch. Traffic and bandwidth management with TOTO Link wireless router is much easy and useful to manage connection properties. You can check bandwidth consumption of each of the network connected device and control if needed.

Last not the least, you can always upgrade firmware of TOTO Link routers from the config explorer’s basic setup.
Final words: TOTO Link routers – home routers and SME/SOHO routers – are affordable device that comes with plenty of features (multiple SSIDs to easier VPN access to QoS) and support multiple Internet connections from NTC’s ADSL to FTTH. After all configuring TOTO Link routers is as easy as abc.
